Sinus pain has become a common condition and can give you a tough time. It begins with pressure in your forehead and brings on some other signs too. A runny nose and a discomfort feeling are also signs of sinus pain.

Experts from Riphah International hospital say that sinus pressure and pain often get resolved on their own and it takes only 10 days. All you need is to take care of yourself and make sure that you continue with healthy lifestyle choices.

People often ask what they should do for sinus relief. This is the reason that we have some recommended tips from experts to resolve sinus infections at home.

    • Spray

The nasal decongestant spray is an effective way to reduce the symptoms of sinus infections. Such over-the-counter sprays help a lot as it contains saltwater and helps to moist your nasal passage. The use of these sprays also unblock the congestion and manage inflammation.

If you have been using this spray for three days and still experiencing congestion, change your spray with fluticasone as it is more effective for severe congestion problems.

    • Take plenty of rest

Having a sinus infection means that you should cut off your regular activities, especially if you do an intense workout. Make sure that you do not get tired and go for a comfortable sleep environment. Experts say that taking rest is also one of the best ways to relieve sinus pressure and pain.

While you are lying down on the bed, use pillows to prop yourself. Elevated position while sleeping helps in the breathing process and makes you feel comfortable. Rest helps to relax your body muscles

    • Drink water

Thick mucus causes nose pressure and causes discomfort. Doctors suggest making the mucus thin during sinus infection which is possible with the heavy intake of water and other fluids. Once you start taking the juices and water, it will keep you hydrated and make the mucus thin.

People who go with caffeinated beverages or drink alcohol should avoid such unhealthy lifestyle habits or it can worsen the sinus infection.

    • Take steam

Steam therapy is useful for many health conditions. You should breathe in steam from a pot or bowl of warm water. Some people take hot water which is not a good fit. Fill the bowl with warm water and start breathing in steam. Doctors also suggest putting a warm towel on the face for sinus pressure relief. You also have another option of the cool towel, just put it on your face as it will help to ease the sinus pain

    • Spicy food

Doctors always ask to avoid the spices if a person has any medical condition. But during a sinus infection, experts suggest eating spicy food as it helps clear your nasal passage. When you have your meal, add black pepper, hot sauce, and wasabi, or other spices to clear your passages.

    • Use a humidifier

Adding humidity into the room air helps a lot to deal with sleep disturbance due to thick mucus and blocked nasal passages. Some sinus infection triggers you need to avoid, such as dry air, chlorinated water, and smoke in the room. Such things irritate the mucus membranes in your nose. It can worsen your condition and lead to a sinus infection.

    • Over-the-counter medication

Doctors suggest taking OTC medicines to mean decongestants, pain relievers, and antihistamines to reduce the pain of the sinus and also help in relieving sinus pressure.

Make sure that you visit your doctor as soon as possible if you already have any other health condition. Children under age 4 should not be given the other medicines.

Doctors recommend nasal suction for young children as it is a form of decongesting.

    • Increase the intake of Vitamin C

During the sinus infection, you should increase the intake of vitamin C as it helps to fight against the infections. Vitamin C intake leads to a lower risk of sinus inflammation and also reduces cold symptoms.

    Final Thought

Sinus infection comes with fever, nasal congestion, fatigue, headache, and sore throat. Shortness of breath and vomiting are also common in some people who develop a sinus infection.
