Bobby Orr, who was born on March 20th, 1948 in Parry Sound, Ontario, is widely regarded as one of the greatest hockey players of all time. His influence on the game of hockey and the legacy he left behind is still felt today. Bobby Orr began playing hockey at the age of five, and it soon became evident that he was a talented player. He joined several different teams throughout his youth and proved to be a formidable force on the ice. By the age of fourteen, he was playing Junior A hockey and was soon signed by the Boston Bruins at the age of sixteen. Orr quickly became a fan favorite of the Bruins and his on-ice performance soon established him as one of the best players in the league. His ability to control the game and make plays that no other player could was remarkable. He revolutionized the game by playing defense like no one else ever had before, often rushing up the ice to join the offense and creating scoring chances. Orr’s offensive prowess was legendary, as he set the single-season record for most points by a defenseman with 139 in 1970-
    1. During his career, he led the NHL in points for a defenseman for eight consecutive seasons and won the Art Ross trophy for most points scored by a player for two consecutive seasons. He also won two consecutive Hart trophies as the NHL’s Most Valuable Player, as well as two straight Norris trophies for being the best defenseman in the league. Bobby Orr’s career was cut short due to knee injuries, but he still left an indelible mark on the game of hockey. Today, his name is synonymous with greatness and he is remembered as one of the greatest players to ever play the game. He is an icon of the sport and his legacy will be remembered for generations to come.
