Bobby Orr 1972-1973 season stands out as one of the greatest single-season performances in NHL history. Orr not only led the Boston Bruins to the Stanley Cup championship, but he also set a number of individual records, and established himself as one of the greatest players to ever play the game of hockey. Orr’s offensive output was unprecedented. He scored 46 goals and 93 assists for a total of 139 points, setting a new NHL single-season record for points by a defenseman. His 93 assists also set a new record for most assists by a defenseman in a single season. He was the first defenseman to ever score 100 points in a single season, and his 139 points remain the highest single-season total ever achieved by a defenseman. Orr also excelled defensively. He was a master of the stick-check and was known for his aggressive style of play. He won the Norris Trophy as the league’s best defenseman in 1972-1973, and he was selected as a First-Team All-Star. He also led all NHL players in plus/minus rating, finishing the season with a plus-124 rating. This was an incredible accomplishment, given that the plus/minus rating was a relatively new statistic at the time. In addition to his individual accomplishments, Orr was instrumental in leading the Bruins to the Stanley Cup championship. He scored the game-winning goal in overtime of the deciding game, cementing his place in hockey history trendingbird. The Bruins went undefeated in the playoffs, and Orr’s performance was a major factor in the team’s success. Bobby Orr’s 1972-1973 season remains one of the most impressive in NHL history. His offensive output, defensive prowess, and leadership helped the Bruins win the Stanley Cup championship, and his individual accomplishments are some of the greatest ever achieved by a defenseman. His performance that season is a testament to his brilliance as a hockey player, and it is unlikely that his records will ever be broken net worth.
